If you believe that everyone in society deserves the opportunity to achieve their literacy goals, you share our vision. By volunteering with READ, you will help transform lives. As a non-profit, volunteers are a critical part of our organization. READ’s volunteer positions are in the following areas: Noisy Kids Reading Club; adult learner support; reception and clerical; bookkeeping; data entry; research and special events.

- Attend an interview to
- confirm your availability and the level of commitment required
- outline your skills and interests
- review volunteer position opportunities and requirements
- Provide references
- Obtain a current Criminal Record Check
- Attend a volunteer orientation session and sign a confidentiality agreement
- Complete specific training for your placement area with staff
What kind of commitment do I have to make?
We ask that you commit to four hours per week for six months. After the first three months, we will schedule a meeting between yourself and a staff supervisor to ensure things are going smoothly.
How will I benefit?
As a READ volunteer, you will have to opportunity to
- assist the society in helping people achieve their literacy goals
- gain valuable practical work experience and build interpersonal skills
- attend in-house training and workshops
- have access to knowledgeable staff
- make connections into a field or topic of interest
- obtain a letter of reference
- attend special recognition events
- be reimbursed an amount equal to bus fare for your regular shift
