Workplace LearningAbout our workplace learning programsCompanies need an edge to attract and retain the best employees. Investing in training is a way to become an “employer of choice,” and has proven business benefits, including improved safety, productivity and profitability. Employers and employees who have used our workplace learning services say they have seen an increase in their ability to work with others, problem solve, communicate effectively, and can provide better customer service. What we can do for youThe READ Society specializes in creating custom workplace learning programs delivered by professional teachers. We offer flexible daytime and evening schedules based on company and employee needs. Our teachers can come to your workplace, or you can send your employees to us. We begin by evaluating the basic skills needs of your workforce through a workplace needs assessment. Next, we help you set training objectives keyed to your business goals. Our professional educators then design customized programs. One of the most successful options is blending basic skills education with on-the-job training. Using your company’s own forms, schedules and documents and other relevant materials, our teachers improve employees’ basic skills with one-on-one teaching, on-site short courses and individual learning plans. We can even simplify and rewrite your workplace documents in plain language as part of the program. We provide instruction in reading, document use, writing, oral communications, problem solving, mathematics, computer skills and English as a second language. Our workplace learning team can give you details. Our experienceThe READ Society has been involved in workplace learning since the early 1990s, and we have been helping adults and children improve their literacy skills since 1976. Since 2009, we have worked with Capital Region employers and employees through the SkillsPlus program, providing training in the Essential Skills of reading text, document use, writing, numeracy, oral communication, thinking skills, working with others and computer use and continuous learning. We learned that employers need quick, affordable solutions based on best practices.
