Child and Youth Programs – Ages 6 to 18CostsAs a non-profit we strive to keep our programs affordable while also offering professional instruction and individualized programs. If you think you might qualify for financial assistance, please see our Education Access page. Assessments in language arts (reading, writing and comprehension) and mathWhat is an assessment? Standardized and informal testing tools are used during a 1½ to 2-hour session administrated by our teachers. The assessment helps determine if there are gaps in your child's skills that are causing frustration with classroom work. The assessor can also observe your child’s current strategies and learning styles. This information is presented to you immediately following the assessment. A written report with results is sent to you. When is an assessment suggested? Each child is unique and learning challenges can present themselves at different times during a child’s school years. An assessment is recommended when no testing has been done at school or if the school testing is over a year old. When a child’s learning challenge has been ongoing, identifying the learning gap can help our teachers in developing an individualized program. It’s also useful to gauge your child’s knowledge against others in the same age group. Cost: $160 for each subject area (language arts and mathematics) Classes in language arts (reading, writing and comprehension) and math or study skillsStudents come to READ for help in areas they find challenging, to get ahead and keep interested, and to improve their study skills. Our program provides just that with small classes of only two students to one teacher. The teachers use their specialized knowledge to create an individualized program that is delivered in hourly sessions once or twice a week at the location most convenient for you. At the end of each three month session, you get a written progress report with suggestions about what is needed next. Class fees: $40 per hour |
